Ordered a new steed yesterday, just been told it wonât be here for a month ď¸
303abuser Ended up cancelling my MacBook order. Did some more reading around various forums. The general consensus is that once software companies have support for the native Silicon chips, then the Intel support is likely to get neglected as energy is spent ironing out fixes the M1s. Add to that trying to sell any Intel Mac a few year years from now.
I think the Mac Mini option is probably the best as I donât need portability with the MacBooks.
Henry thatâs probably a good call, from what iâve read too. iâm still using a 2012 mac mini and itâs just now starting to bottleneck my projects (which actually forces me to bounce to audio and commit to ideas, so even thatâs not all bad). the mini is fantastic value, canât wait to upgrade.
added my remix of not toto - singularity to soundcloud and bandcamp âŚ
How is he still rocking that 2008 teen rainbow goth barnet?
Taking any soft synth suggestions at present. Preferably stuff with lots of tutorials and gnarly techno sounds.
âŚSylenth?
About to get the full Ableton Suite, and want to pick up a decent / interesting / well documented / well known / recognisable synth to learn on.
in that case, iâd go with either arturiaâs pigments, uhe diva, or uhe repro.
pigments is the most versatile, has sampling & wavetable engines, endless modulation possibilities and decent built in fx and a sequencer. itâs probably got a steeper learning curve because of all the options, but it sounds amazing and youâll find lots of tutorials on youtube.
either uhe option is good, with diva being the most âanalogâ virtual synth youâll find and repro is basically a prophet clone, if thatâs your thing. i donât own repro, but iâve almost bought it a couple of times, iâve been using diva for 3 years. i canât image thereâs a sound you could think of that you couldnât make with diva.
iâll give honorable mentions to unfiltered audioâs lion and bx oberhausen. i use both of them and you can pick them up on sale at plugin alliance for $15-20, making them great 2nd options. and if you need something for acid, abl3 is the best youâll find.
if you get to the point where you want really wild options for crazy sound design and less conventional workflows, i can give you a few options there too.
âŚDiva is beautiful, but I wouldnât file it under âgnarlyâ
(point at which he discovers heâs been using it all wrong)
i should add, if you can wait two months, black friday sales will save you a lot on most/all of these. and if youâre learning ableton suite, youâll have more than enough to keep you busy until then. and if you want a plugin alliance $25 off code thatâs good until the end of the week, let me know and iâll give you mine.
Unbroken1 itâs not gnarly, but thatâs what fx and resampling are for. if gnarly is the key, some of these are WAY out there ⌠https://glitchmachines.com/products/plugin-bundle/
