JonQPublik Agree, was very disappointed with Billy Summers. Very slow plot development which was fine but ending didnt really do it for me
Michael Mann’s written two novels set in the world of Heat. A prequel set in 1989, and a sequel set in 2002. Will wait for the reviews before I rush to buy either, but I’m certainly interested. The positive side is that with that timeline neither can be made into a movie (or I don’t see how without changing the entire cast).
Mad_Cyril Are there many biographies that portray the subject as a cunt?
It’s a fair point… but I reckon you occasionally get the massive twat, who want’s you to know he’s a massive twat. Reckon a Joey Barton or Roy Keane book could feature such info.
Gillespie has taken grief recently for not paying royalties or giving writing credits etc. Not sure when on the scale of twatishness this would register.
I’m going to start reading Gillespie’s Tenement Boy on Saturday.

Has Mann done a movie since Black Hat btw? Not seen that, but I remember everyone thinking it was a bit shit.
Homegrove Has Mann done a movie since Black Hat
He has not. Shame as he’s a boss director.
Hannu, have you done The Town rewatchables? Listened to it again the other day. It’s just so good. The last bit about Bawwwstan history is a riot.
jonattonyeah naturally. I think it was the second one I listened to after their second time discussing Heat, which started the whole Rewatchables-podcast.
Russillo’s pod is mostly sports that are likely no interest to you, but the end bit is “Life Advice” where he answers readers’ questions. It’s pretty fucking funny if you’re looking for a 20 minute escape here and there.
Homegrove @jonattonyeah The Godfather 2 Rewatchables with the creator from Billions is such a great listen.
I’ve also been listening to The Big Picture with Sean Fennessey - decent enough, though I find Amanda Dobbins or whatever her name is quite grating.
Nah, Brian Koppleman is flat out unlistenable. That dude is a fucking idiot.
The Big Picture movie drafts, on the other hand, are excellent. CHRIS RYAN!
Finished off Dune Messiah, has its moments, the themes of power are interesting, but nothing too special. There’s a noir element in this too, but in terms of plot mechanics it kinda gets lost. Frank Herbert really knows how to build to a climax in both books, and loves an abrupt ending right after. Though this ending wasn’t as bizarre are Dune.
Spoiled Children of Dune and just wiki’d the plot summary right after. Not sure if I’m going to regret that in the long run but I’m done committing to this series. It’s pretty much all downhill for Paul Atreides eh.
Oh good looking out JP, love me some Klosterman. He was on a Rewatchables episode no? Some movie that didn’t age well.
