Should have done so a long time ago. Murakami is a tremendous writer and it’s been too long since I read one of his novels.

Mad_Cyril IQ84 is deffo one of his better recent ones. Thought it was pretty good. Recall getting the horn a few times too. He’s got a new one coming out in April, but the translation will take a while.

Truman Capote - In Cold Blood

One of the very best I’ve read. A fantastic retelling of a true crime story.

Michael Connelly - Desert Star. One of the better Bosch/Ballard books albeit a bit melancholy at the end. @Homegrove have you read this?

Michael Mann & Meg Gardiner - Heat 2. Aside from very cringy sex depictions and some weird timeline stuff (for example I’m pretty sure there were no black markets in South America selling pirated DVDs in 1996. Seems way too soon) aside I liked it a lot. The writing was reminiscent of James Elroy, and you learned a lot more about all the main characters. Will have to watch the movie once again this weekend having read this.

Adrift by W. Michael Gear. 5th book in the Donovan series. Human/algae hybrids? Ok, fiiiiine.

Blitz by Daniel O’Malley. 3rd book in The Checquy Files. Prequel and continuation in one book. If you read Rook and Stiletto, grab this too.

Locklands by Robert Jackson Bennett. Final book in The Founders Trilogy. It was enjoyable, but I’m happy to put the series to bed.

Up next: The Veiled Throne and Speaking Bones, the final books of The Dandelion Dynasty by Ken Liu. Then The Cuckoo, final book in Leo Carew’s Under The Northern Sky trilogy.

JonQPublik I must thank you for recommending The Wolf, Jon. About halfway done, it’s been a while since I’ve had this much fun reading a book. What a ride so far. No spoilers, but the way the battle of Githru plays out felt like a proper master stroke in writing. Also finding myself quite confused if I should be rooting for Bellamus or not. Must admit, was a bit intimidated with the fantasy + war tag, but this is easy reading. Like an idiot I hit epilogue by mistake on my kindle and saw a name of a character (and nothing else)… now I can’t stop thinking about it!

Think @Homegrove should give it a shot.

rhouses All good. The Spider ramps up the fantasy more (unless the Welsh are truly monstrous). The Cuckoo should arrive today, and it’s jumping my reading queue. If it ends with England winning, all is lost.

rhouses About 80% through it - Decent - I like the writing style and some of the characters - Grey and Keturah especially - but not quite as good as I was hoping. Hoping the ending lifts it up.

JonQPublik I was bit confused about the in-built armour/bone structure of the Anakims? How does that work? They haven’t really elaborated on it besides the southerners ripping it out off the corpses from the first battle in the book. I’m assuming that’s a bit of the fantasy element, besides them being 8ft tall on average.

Wally Yup, Keturah is sassy thing isn’t she. Great character, as his her father. Though it looks like he’s getting killed. I’m assuming so is Gray, his story about that Tall warrior sacrificing himself felt like foreshadowing.

Don’t spoil, I’m still only 50% in! ha.
