Since this appears to be taking over the world, I am making a serious attempt to acquaint myself.

I don’t like what I’m hearing.

Juice Wrld (now brown bread, no great loss by the sounds of things)…
I liked the intro bars which sounded like Nas, absolutely hated the lyrics: “You found another one, but I am the better one” - sounds like something D4NNY would have written.

Lil Peep - also brown bread.
This was miserable but the tune was better as it sounds like some of Nirvana’s darker/slower tracks, one of his influences apparently. Dresses like a complete idiot.

XXXTentacion - also brown bread.
This guy was a real piece of shit, it seems:

Lil Peep is very dead so no need to worry about him anymore.

There’s a Netflix doc about him. It was surprisingly good.

The process for all the genres artists seems to be release some shoddily-produced tracks and videos, get to the cusp of stardom, get dead, become huge.

        bosstrabs

The best way to get great is get good and then get dead.

Randy Rhoads was fine. But then he died and all of a sudden he’s a legend. Dying is the way forward.

it’s all shit, there’s little discussion necessary. garbage pop music for kids and people with no appreciation for proper hip hop or rap.

Post Malone, I was already familiar with (he’s somewhat inescapable)…
This is one of the better offerings from the genre - or is it just someone appropriating the style? I’m not sure he is ‘proper’ because he’s not dead.

What’s with everyone having terrible face tattoos?

          Like ‘Lyrical Lemonade’

          Going to be using that.

My step-dad (a prog rock fan) still pretty much says that of punk, decades on, whenever it comes on TOTP II.

The greatest prog rock band of all time?

            Trisco.

            bosstrabs Is it Mumble Rap?

I don’t know. I always just looped him in with the others ’cause of him making his name on Soundcloud and YouTube. But yeah he was a good one.

I don’t think it is. It sounds like he’s influenced by De La Soul/Naughty By Nature/Skee-Lo etc.

bosstrabs i think i’m semi aware of when i’m just acting like the old guy shaking his fists at the kids, but i don’t think this is one of those times. if you can’t understand the mc and they have nothing to say in the first place, what’s the point? these guys make bob dylan sound like a formal orator.

There must be something worth digging out of the genre.

I think that Lil Peep track is quite interesting, although like I said, the track is just a direct lift of Nirvana with rap over the top.

bosstrabs i’m going to assume there’s nothing. why waste your time when there’s so much other good music out there? this is the dub step of hip hop.

                    For a briefly interesting diversion?

So at least I know who is who when I hear these names mentioned?

I mean, why not waste your time listening to a genre you wouldn’t normally listen to?
