Mad_Cyril everyone knows when you think of Ireland it’s our curry sauce that you think of first we are renowned for it , that and a side of potatoes

Curry sauce with fish is just plain wrong. ‘Ok’ with chips (But not in a chips butty), but I prefer gravy with chips if given the choice. Heil Haddock etc.

Heno lol. When he opens the box. Kid in a candy shop

Fishcakes should be round, covered in breadcrumbs and fried. Love them.

Along_the_Wire Exactly, which is why I was a bit taken aback when I was handed it - thought they’d got the order wrong. I pointed to what I always had known as a fishcake in the display and was then informed that’s what they call a rissole.

I’m not from Yorkshire originally but have spent about 8 years living in it at some point or other and can confirm it’s part of the regional dialect. All the chippys I’ve been to in the county use these terminologies.

Long story short, if you want a fishcake in Yorkshire ask for a rissole instead.

PDJ Rissole is (obviously) a French term, which means pretty much the same thing, though it need not be fish.
