That’s an excellent CD. Used to listen to it all the time. Saw Yousef once and he leveled the place. Played with Onionz (also an excellent DJ). Yousef plays utter tripe these days.

I’d say Miguel Migs was the boss around here for soulful, warm House. Always packed the house with women as well. Not always my thing but he was good at it.

Bought this back in the day.

The Nude Dimensions mixes were the ones for me

    Migs and Harness ones

I still love the original, unmixed Hed Kandis. OM Records has a few hits and many cheesy misses.

They were an institution around here. Some of their House mixes could be a big handbaggy but their downtempo and hip hop releases were excellent, Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz discs being standouts.

Early 2000s was a great era for Onionz, Halo Varga, Hipp-E and that whole H-Foundation, Siesta Records, Moody Recordings sound.

Some funky, tribal music came out of those stables for sure.

I fucking adore the tune coming in here.

        Blakkat - Tonite

On a total aside there is some lethal techno in here too if you want to slide around this production.

        Check out 18:45, 19:16 (mercy!) 27:00 and 37:14 to name a few.

        Wipe. Me. Dry.

Jesus, that tempo. Zack would love it. In all seriousness, miss the rawness of the sound of that era. Everything is so cleanly produced these days. I find most of it quite boring. There’s no edge. Too much compression. Sometimes I want to hear something just rip.

I find the smooth mixing boring nowadays.

Give me a choppy/shoddy mix of two mismatched house records blowing a dance floor up over ponderous, perfectly sequenced chug.

100%. I don’t care if it’s out of key or slides a bit on the beatmatching; if it keeps my head going, great. Many mixes I hear these days do little more than help me type faster.

You’re going to lay into me for saying this, but listening to these old essential mixes….some of them really have flow and energy. It’s dynamic and fun. I swear Prog ruined everything. Too concentrated on the perfect mix rather than what works the floor. XX and XXX could do both, why they’re still around, but many of these 2004 mixes never get out of 3rd gear. It’s frustrating to listen to at time.
