So 6 months ago the media were giving the govt shot for not closing enough to to drive zero emissions.
Now the govt are evil for not subsidising rising fossil fuel prices.
Very responsible
bosstrabs lol also this
This seems bad. Is hail like this normal there?
Have a friend from there. They said MC (not Mad Cyril) gets bouts of weird weather due to its elevation. Dunno how science that is but that’s what she said.
Currently 103/40 here in Oakland. Brutal heat. Just brutal. We usually get warm weather later in the year, when the day are shorter, so it’s not too bad. This heat this early in the year is very, very unusual.
Yeah, other places get hotter. But our infrastructure (housing, public transport, all that) is built for a more temperate environment. Walls are thin. No AC. When it gets like this, you can’t go anywhere or do a damn thing.
EDIT moving to Scotland immediately. Midges > 100 degree June weather
jonattonyeah It was even warm down here in SD today. Not as warm as where you are, but warmer than normal. I turned on my AC for a couple hours to cool my apartment down. Normally I can just go with windows open until mid-July at least.
You’re still in SD! Thought you had ideas of moving. All things considered, SD is a fantastic place to live. Get your fries out of my burrito, ’though
jonattonyeah Yep! No idea where else I’d go at the moment. My family lives elsewhere, and I am happy to just visit them there.
Agree about the fries in the burrito, but I’m not giving up carne asada fries.
Fries in burrito? I thought fries on a pizza was bad.
Who the fuck would put fries on pizza. Probably the same freaks who put pineapple.
Same people who put eggs on steaks.
Mugs.
Fries in a burrito is a San Diego thing. Dunno why or when it started.
Eggs on steak is a Brazilian thing. I’m not an egg guy so never had it, but given their skills with the ole bovine, not going to argue with Brazil about how they do their cuts of meat.
I’m game for all burritos. Sans Chipotle. That place can do one.
jonattonyeah Too many authentic, better places down here to give Chipotle any business.
Same. I see the line at Chipotle and I’m like, you’re in California you dingus. Like visiting China and hitting up Panda Express.
jonattonyeah Chipotle
We have Chipotle in London and even by our standards it’s shit.
This place gets good reviews -
Came across a Mexican place in Windermere last time I was over. Called Bandito Burrito. Wanted to tell them Bandito is a slur that’s quite frowned upon these days. But I’m not Mexican and I doubt they meant any harm so whatever.
Places like Windermere are perennially stuck in the 1970s.
Full of brexiteers, daft racists and mahoosive loosers.
You voted to leave didn’t you Edwand from memory?
I like it. It’s pretty.
Cankles-McJeggings You voted to leave didn’t you Edwand from memory?
Cosmopolitan, international men like me did not vote leave Derm.
jonattonyeah I like it. It’s pretty.
Pretty RACIST.
Meh. I don’t go there to make friends. The extent of words shared probably maxes out with a “thank you” at Booths.
Smallman1 it’s in Walthamstow!
Along_the_Wire Walthamstow
That doesn’t sound very Mexican.
jonattonyeah next to bud bud ding dings curry emporium iirc
Across the street from Bandito’s is a place called “Brown Sugar.” Almost certainly racist.
It’s Windermere. Call it White Sugar you slave owning cunts.
Millsy good song about this.
You’re a dirty Tory and I definitely remember you being pro leave until you realised how uncool it made you.
Cunts, If they go at my leccy SUV I’ll be getting the flamethrower out
Cheery stuff.
Amps I too am pretty much done with flying. Thinking about Bedrock’s birthday this fall, but it is giving me real anxiety, I’d feel like the world’s worst hypocrite in the plane.
Next Berlin trip is going to be by train, that’s actually very doable and might be a fun experience. Just takes a long time. First step being a 12 hour boat ride to Stockholm.
Homegrove First step being a 12 hour boat ride to Stockholm.
You really do live in the cul-de-sac of Europe! That’s a beast of a start and end to a trip You very much have to have your heart and mind open to the idea of ‘slow travel’ to ditch the planes. The adjustment to the idea of the travelling being part of the holiday / experience is a difficult one. But a good set of noise cancelling headphones and the occasional upgrade can work wonders (The Bose QC45 are de rigueur for just about everyone in the music industry when travelling).
Hoping they go through with plans to reinstate the Trans Europe Express service in the coming years. They’ve had a lot of success in Italy with good HS train services adding to the demise of domestic air travel, I reckon the TEE could do the same for a lot of other European journeys for a good chunk of travellers.
