Based on many of our discussions, I think it is safe to say that it is difficult to deliver a high quality disc 2 that will stand the test of time. Whether it is because jocks felt the need to deliver the hits, or because they just shot their loads on disc 1, it seems that the second disc almost never out shines the first. So, with that in mind, let me hear which two disc mixes have a second disc that is an absolute peach. Some obvious rules:

  1. Must be a two disc mix. Three discs and beyond are disqualified.
  2. The same DJ must have mixed both discs.
  3. Sasha Ibiza is not an acceptable answer, and is neither clever nor funny.
  4. The first disc has to be of substantial quality. A disc 1 stinker doesn’t mean that the second is obviously great.

And now, a few of my selections:

  1. Emerson: Singapore
  2. Kleinenberg: This is Everybody
  3. Wink: Profound Sounds V.3

Amps as Mr. T once said……“Nope!”

Think I’ve played disc 2 of #006 once. It was enough.

    Disk 1 however got mullered!

I couldn’t tell you the last time I played that mix. I will have to revisit before weighing in.

Joris Voorn - Midori mix Balance 014

      Tenaglia - London.

And to the incoming haters - Fuck you!

      • Dan replied to this.

Nick Warren Brazil. CD2 is the sound of peaktime Cream residency

Hard disagree. Disc 1 comes flying out if the traps and never looks back.

Amps replace disc 2 with disc 1 and you have yourself an accurate statement. 🤣

zackster disc 1 is undoubtedly good. Great mix period. Just prefer 2

zackster Sasha Ibiza is not an acceptable answer, and is neither clever nor funny.

I will give you AIDS at the first opportunity.

Legit question - what other cd series is going to come up in here apart from GU, Balance, Nubreed and Bedrock? Are there many other 2 disc series out there worth chatting about?

zackster sorry, admittedly didn’t get as far as that. Just read ‘disc 2’ and got the gist 😅

              Taylor: Synthesia
Disc 2 is such a prog trance roller.

Dave Seaman Renaissance awakenings. CD2 pips a good 1. Probably his best mix

Amps Better than Disc 1?! No no no no no no no. 😅 Disc 1 of GU:006 is the greatest CD of all time.

Dubman funniky enough found this in my computer the other day and was planning on giving it another listen.

It’s a great album full stop.

Smallman1 Yeah…love the fact that in the age of turbo powered cheese it’s pitched down and melodic.

Fuckin lollers! The mere mention of 006 D2, and half the board out themselves as not liking muscular prog. You may as well fuck off now lads, you’re on the wrong message board.

It is good but Disc 2 is the winner for me. it’s so hypnotic & trippy.

i’m about to listen to sydney again in it’s entirety. hold tight for feedback.

I am deeply relieved, surprised but relieved, that Expeditions has not come up.

i find the expeditions discs different, but pretty equal when it comes to listening enjoyment. hope that helps.

There is a long standing belief that that mix violates one of the main rules of this very thread.

zackster realised I left CD2 in my car when I sold it. So cannot listen to it ever again

Just about edges CD1, both are boss.

303abuser it was not. Hence my saying a “long standing belief”. I subscribe to it personally btw.

Also, disc 1 is clearly better.

it’s possible, but i’m still not sure which is better. disc one has some amazing records and tyrantanic > stage one is one of the reasons i bought my first pair of 1200s, but disc two just has an amazing flow and texture to it.
