  • How the fuck did we get here

baggers44 Reykjavik, Miami, Sander K, Satoshi, Burridge… all 2001 onwards, all great mixes. Probably belongs in the unpopular mixes thread, but I enjoyed Singapore, Barcelona, and Trafik stuff too. The real fall from grace came with Jim Rivers & Sultan onwards.

Fabric always had the edge and longevity because of the diversity and a way more mature sound overall (mostly because the BPMs were not obnoxious).

rhouses Definitely some decent mixes post 2001, but that felt like the last time that I’d buy the GU albums on spec, on the day they came out. Became a lot more hit and miss, and there were quite a few I didn’t bother buying after I’d heard them…

vinnyt77 I left the states end of 2005, so my access to GU was pretty limited after that. Not once did I go out of my way to have friends bring a GU mix down to India for me. Fabric and Balance however, I absolutely needed those in my collection up until 2010. They pretty much ruined the board as well, right when everyone ridiculed them for the Sultan mix. Couldn’t believe they killed the board, seemed like their #1 marketing tool.

Cocaine is a helluva drug, I guess (in regards to the “fat lads” or whatever they were called).

Dan That sounds sooo similar to their remix of Jimpy ‘Talkin’ which they’d made previously.

It sounds like pretty much the same tune but they just swapped a few samples in and out.

hugopal All remixers do that tbf. Carl Craig is a prime example.

Dan Caned this. Pitching it up on the first break worked wonders.

Thought T&R were a fantastic combo. This was my fave of his on his own. Immense at Tyrant.

Yeah, it did cross my mind. Athens isn’t one of my favourite mixes, but even I know Seduction of Orpheus, probably because it is the most un-Tilt track that they ever did. His reaction videos reminded me of the early doors videos of Sasha, at the Cathedral last weekend. You have these dudes running in through the doors, cutting shapes and largin’ it on an empty dance floor like it is peak time, not because the tune is brilliant, but because they feel that it’s an expression that they are really into it. Maybe that makes me Jaded.

The track is shit compared I dream anyway. Was temporarily cool cos Tenaglia played it. The French tit with the nasal twine sample is deeply annoying

Dan could be Charles de Gaulle for all I care. Sounds shit

Dan You mean John Graham putting on a French accent?

in 1998 i was received from prison. some of my rascal friends who loved the peruvian told me about the global underground sasha 009. I paid hundred dollars just for it to ship to Almaty in those times. Even though I am mostly a hard acid techno person it was very much enjoyable until that libra calling your name track came on. Then I was so determinedly revolted that I took the two cds, urinated on them, and threw myself under a towtruck and, for certain, broke one of my rib.

When I moved to England to do some business, I met an east london cockney and his girlfriend was getting the white fainting face after smoking 3.5 grams of the skunk. I thought this was very strange as I know warriors from Karaganda who smoke the 30 gram zoot and wanted to get into battle with new york mcs. So this is all very vague, but anyway he put this on before his jose padilla mix and then sure as the midnight follows the daytime, the calling your name libra track came on. when he asked me why I was going all white faced in horror despite not smoking the skunk like his girlfriend, I didn’t know how to articulate myself. I said, it is the girls voice. It is sounding like high school musical corney drama. I cannot imagine how grown men enjoy this. It has occult power, somehow. And he turned round to me and said, so you’re saying this music is nonce thelema? Now of course, I was not willing to go that far, but I had heard of Crowley in the Almaty underworld, we had to use mind manipulation on kleptocrats after all. But since then I have been traumatised, much more than when other big man put neadles in my pum pum in 1995 in the jail because we sold more products than his putrid gang.

hugopal maybe. should have stopped after track 10. no cd 2 nothing else. this is the problem with the Sasha. good foreplay but very bad at the actual penetration, always tries to go for the gentle tender intercourse. which can be a bit creepy. how would he survive in almaty prison?

Dubman I see somebody has invited him onto this board. I bet he’s had a look & thought fuck that I’d get eaten

Yep, the guy’s a wuss - he did in fact reply to me saying he’s had a look but isn’t sure where to post. I suggested the music threads, but also pretty much anywhere - just get involved! But since then crickets.

                hugopal
He’s like a kid in a sweetshop each time he posts a tune. Just wait until he hears Trisco.

                  Dan
Oh my. Plus some of slackers breakdown. We’re in for a massive meltdown.

Dubman Just wait until he hears Trisco.

Quite, his first vids were pretty bilge as far as prog goes.

Kiklahurtz is a crap tune that I could never really get in to at the time - that pan pipe lead line whatever the heck it is which comes in at the breakdown just sounds cheap and tacky. The groove on it is also proper bspf.
‘Seduction of Orpheus’ is the worst track on Tenaglia’s Athens as well; not terrible, but just a bit too odd.

Can’t and won’t be listening to that stupid twat again. He’s not that interesting, just another nauseating sycophantic sepo. 🤮

Really digging deep for this selections isn’t he?

                    Cankles-McJeggings

Nail on head. I flicked through and caught about 3 clips. His reaction to Cowgirl in the last 10 minutes is fucking scary.

Why the fuck do people even watch “reaction video’s” ???

The thing I don’t get with this guy, as I don’t with all “reactions” channels is that he talks about the GU series and the scene like he’s knowledgeable, yet he’s reacting to the classics like he’s been living under a rock for the last 20 years!

Seriously, if he’s a complete noob to the scene and being genuine in his reactions, then fair play. But then don’t be brown-nosing the likes of Nick Warren and Danny Tenaglia like you’ve been a roadie for their entire career.

Fucks sake. Screech from Saved By the Bell decided to listen to the Merciless World of Prog House and got a stiffy.

                    benson

I flicked through it and at first thought he was doing like a watch party to GU 13 because it was so long. Flicked to another part and then realised that he was just randomly picking tracks. I then caught Cowgirl at the end. I assume that he was like that for the whole 3 hours. Probably the sort of thing that goes on at Ed’s after parties.
