hugopal alistair diviine mixseries 04: Spencer Brown Live at CODA - Toronto, ON by Spencer Brown on #SoundCloud https://on.soundcloud.com/UXiph4SQ7TfiZEfTA I gave this way too much of a chance than I should have - too soft and fluffy, way too housey. Maxed out at 128bpm ffs. Give your ears a wash Alistair!
Smallman1 hugopal As with Ed, I think SP would probably run for the hills if any DJs in a club he was attending actually went north of 130. Is the right answer!
SM001 Try some of Adam Pits sets. Some of his “Progier/Trancier” sets can veer to the dubby techno side.

I quite liked that Adam Pits set, I did get shades of deep and moody late 90s stuff like Corellian ‘Fathoms’ (Freelance Icebreakers Mix’) and Electric Tease ’Your Lovin (16B Mix) early on. It also had a hypnotic feel missing from a lot of recent sets that draw from prog influences. However, as you say it ended up mostly dub techno type stuff and I have to admit towards the end I was starting to find it all starting to sound rather samey.

ScottBailey Wasily Actually forgot I did this! Wall to wall classics for sure. Can’t say I’ve heard any dj recently that plays close to the old prog’ because the music isn’t simply there now, unless you do what I did above…
hugopal Wasily This is in a similar vein: Also not bad; missing a bit of darkness and oomph, but a fair amount of proggy stuff in there including some less commonly heard tribally sounding bits.
SM001 ScottBailey Can’t say I’ve heard any dj recently that plays close to the old prog’ because the music isn’t simply there now, Exactly. There are definite influences in todays tracks for sure. And attempts to keep the sound/genre alive which has unfortunately spawned new genres and the kind of shite you hear the likes of Cattaneo and Warren playing.
bosstrabs hugopal Mad_Cyril What about ‘the journey’? Whaddya mean? Serious point by MC. It was all about the journey.
hugopal bosstrabs Serious point by MC. It was all about the journey. If “the journey” is from 125bpm melodic house to 128bpm breakbeats then I don’t give a shit.
bosstrabs Sasha could provide ‘the journey’. Cattaneo, despite having 60% the same bag of records, couldn’t provide ‘the journey’. Oakenfold, at his peak, couldn’t mix properly but could still provide ‘the journey’.
rhouses Fucking hell just cringed at the thought of me describing the genre to innocent bystanders circa 2002-2007 with the word ‘journeyesque’.
Wally rhouses ‘Music that stimulates the mind as well as the heart’ was my own ultra wanky way of describing things back in the day.
Wally Some of the bangers Perel puts in her sets definitely sounds like it was heavily influenced by old school tune age - hook recordings and their trancier sound comes to mind - some stuff almost sounds like repurposed happy hardcore - not the golden age of prog but still kinda refreshing when so much stuff takes itself way too seriously these days.
bosstrabs Wally My favourite was some skinny, speccy bloke in Renaissance Nottingham (I think the club was called Media) who looked madoutofit, bouncing off the walls, when we asked what he was on he said “just high on the music, mate”.
