Bit of a slow burner, Nearly turned it off after 10 minutes but persist & its actually very good.

Film is about tensions in a New Mexico town during the Covid pandemic + other stuff.

Great performance from Joaquin

Highest 2 Lowest (2025). What the hell was that first act?! This being a streaming movie I know most can’t get through that without giving up on Spike and Denzel. Then the second act with the first train ride was just perfect, rest of the movie alright, we’re with Spike Lee, we’re good.

But I cannot over emphatize how bad the first hour is.

Was literally watching it last night in its first hour when you posted this. Haven’t finished it yet, but what a bizarre start. Kind of thought it was supposed to seem that bad to set you up for whatever happens later.

Homegrove this is a top 3 King book for me. And I know you’re a big King fan as well. Should I watch this? Is it more Misery/Shawshank or Maximum Overdrive/The Dark Tower?

gcw it’s well worth watching IMO even if I gave it just 3,5 stars on Rekordbox. It’s more like The Mist rather then Shawshank. You will not leave the movie with your spirits lifted, but having read the book you probably know it already.

gcw The best one. Better than T2. Not starting a debate as I know T2 is way more polished, but that’s why I like the first one. It’s raw. Just like the sex scene. Let’s not forget he’d worn those trousers for a few days before getting his knob wet and that sex face is probably the best acting Linda Hamilton did all film.

No Country For Old Men (2007). Criterion Collection 4K Blu ray was an excellent purchase, it looks incredible. Not much new to add to any conversation about this five star masterpiece, except that Gareth Dillahunt as Deputy Wendell is incredibly funny in this. Just the bit of the humor of the Coen Brothers I forgot this movie had. Also: “Well it’s certainly true that it is a story.”

Punch-Drunk Love (2002). The only PTA I hadn’t watched in the last two years, or logged in Letterboxd yet, so did before seeing One Battle After Another next week. Made me miss Philip Seymor Hoffman so much again, he’s in this for maybe 5 minutes, and is so great. Also the best thing Adam Sandler has ever done. I’ve never liked any of his comedies, not even Happy Gilmore.

Off to see One Battle after Another this weekend. I actually like the fact it seems to have flown under the radar a bit tbh as it means I can avoid the usual spoilers. Apparently it’s a comedic turn from DiCaprio a la WoWS, but you wouldn’t know that from the trailers.

Homegrove Watch all Coen Brothers-films got to Fargo and The Big Lebowski on Sunday, I’m probably the first to ever say it but both are pretty decent movies.

I don’t know anybody who doesn’t think those movies are stone cold classics. I’d go as far as saying the Big Lebowski is one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen.

One Battle After Another is a great PTA stoner action comedy. Wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s an intricate masterpiece like There Will Be Blood or The Master, it’s more accessible and mainstream. Should satisfy the folks who struggled with Inherent Vice. It’s a ton of fun, really funny, and Leo brings it as per. Think I might appreciate it more on second viewing, the first is too much of a roller coaster to soak it all in. The latter half makes IMAX well worth it. 9 / 10

I wanted a comfort movie last night, so watched Zodiac (2007) again. Somehow that and Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actually are comfort-movies for me lol.

Sad Hill Unearthed (2017). I watched this on Netflix when it was new, but it’s not available even on rental now. So I was delighted Arrow included it in their limited edition-package of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

A documentary about a bunch of GBU-fans in Spain who dig up and restore the fake cemetary made for the film in 1966 fifty years later. This really puts my film obsessions to scale, those guys spent every weekend of one Spanish winter doing back breaking labor for free just to honor an amazing location. The ending a screening of the movie at the cemetary with video messages before it from Ennio Morricone, James Hetfield and Clint Eastwood thanking them for honoring Leone’s film was very touching.

I really want to visit the place one day.

Brad Pitt’s greatest performance ever. This is one of my favorite Coens’, and after Lebowski probably their most quotable.
