Ricky Stanicky: Not very funny and was kinda surprised it was Peter Farrelly. Premise was sort of 90s, but it tried to be Judd Apatow. Felt like a very confused movie when it came to humour. Might have also been me, after a heavy Sunday grill extravaganza buffet at the Sheraton’s Thai restaurant, but it just didn’t work. 4.8 / 10

I don’t really care for The Oscars, but I am happy Godzilla Minus One took home the special effects-award. They had a budget of 15 000 000 for the whole movie which you can’t believe when you see it.

Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001). I recently bought the 4K restauration released by Studio Canal, and it was money well spent. A very heightened retelling of the Beast of Gevaudan, this French cult classic is set in 18th century rural France where everyone knows martial arts, Mark Dacascos in brown face playing a Native American who fights like he’s in Hard Boiled, and a match cut from Monica Bellucci’s breasts into two snowy mountains. You know, CINEMA.

Barring the soundtrack, this was a very meh film. Surprised at the hype it has generated. Scandalous ’tache from Paul Mescal as well.

Dune Part Two, round two at cinema tonight. Loved it even more. First movie I’ve paid to see twice since Blade Runner 2049. I entertained the idea to go see Oppenheimer again too, but in the end couldn’t bother to find the time for it.

Spaceman (2024)

No, not a film about @seanc80’s infamous trabbs but a Netflix adaptation of a book about a Czech astronaut who travels solo to the outer edges of the solar system and learns something about love, life, loneliness and loss in the process. Starring 2023’s highest paid actor Adam Sandler, Carey Mulligan and Paul Dano.

Some very mixed reviews meant I went in with low expectations but I actually quite liked the way it tried to engage with some deep philosophical ideas. It was decent.
