jonattonyeah total quality - this cemented my love of this era of music
Essential Mixes from the Year 1999 - RANKED
Just a monumental post. A staggeringly ambitious work, yet joyously funny too.
Truly deserves the accolade:
✓ Great post - would read again.
Other posters can get in the fucking bin, I only read Jonattan Yeah?'s posts now.
jonattonyeah great effort btw - the one which resonates still with me after all this time is the first hour of Okay Creamfields - the energy and melodies

I’ll try another year soon (do need a bit of break). Any ideas or preferences? Anything before 1998 I don’t think I can do. Not qualified. Thinking now, maybe 2004 or thereabouts. Different enough from 1999 that I won’t kill myself, but still recent enough and good enough that I think I can judge fairly and have it be fun. And some Infusion tracks were probably played. We’ll see how those have aged.
Onward and upward!
EDIT - And Infusion is the first mix of the year and it’s all Infusion tracks. That gets that out of the way.
2004 would be decent: https://www.essentialmix.nu/?modname=tracklistings&year=2004
2000 to 2005 are peak muscular years, so you should get some good stuff.
jonattonyeah Any ideas or preferences?
Any with a Parks & Wilson essential mix
2004 would be good, starts with Infusion mix, although the Tidy Weekender might be tough going.
Phil-McRackin although the Tidy Weekender might be tough going
LOL saw that and started twitching.
JY wins poster of the year by a country mile this year. No doubt. A top lad and produces posts like this one too.
The sasha and Emerson Feb 99 lush! / red box mix should be in the legendary category though. One of sashas best ever and the atmosphere in lush! was fucking insane that night.
The homelands ess mix and the oakey Liverpool uni were also classics in my book. What a fucking year. And 21 years ago for fuck sake.
I remember the uproar at the time when Digweed didn’t win, in the UK at least anyway.
Think I’ll give it another go over later, if not just for the mix of The Baseline Track that never saw the light of day.
Hooj has this stellar reputation, and some of their releases were top drawer, but I can’t help but think of them as immensely overrated. Most of the tracks they released weren’t even originals, just poached from other labels; and many of their remix choices leave a lot to be desired. Good, yes, but wildly inconsistent.
Always looked forward to their stickman variations, ’though.
Yeah, they were like unrestrained vultures on the prog scene for a fair few years. Red Jerry must’ve made some coin out of that.
Dubman Heard him play it at 1015 Folsom in July 99, B2B with Diggers. Incredible set. First time hearing ‘We Are Connected’, the Pappa & Gilbey mix of ‘I Trance You’ and ‘Annihilate’ in that set too. Wild night.
Jon, absolutely stellar work, mate. I do have a soft spot for that Oakie Cuba set though, so take it easy lol
I’m totally chuffed that Millsy’s usual late run for awards season has been scuppered by this exocet missile of a post.
