Hearing Sasha play The Baseline Track in 1015 back in 99 on that system was a helluva moment. It was like doing 9gs in a F-15.

Yoshiesque Two - the Disc 1 is very well put together, but is mostly deep house. Although the intro to Disc 2 (Finally) needs to be skipped, it then builds to some excellent peak-time prog later on.

I have such fond memories of Rhouses defending that release with such gusto. Less than a year later we found out that GU had gone bankrupt and that Barcelona was the first of several court ordered releases, the purposes of which were to generate capital to pay back the parties they ripped off, one of which was John Digweed.

benson I don’t think so, but I could be wrong. Iircc the story was pieced together from various articles and quotes. Some notable moments I remember are as follows:

Puff piece on Andy Horseface being at the helm of GU. Hidden inside was a bit about James heading to Japan(?) to coach soccer. In retrospect he was clearly getting the fuck out of Dodge before the shit hit the fan.
Article in Dj or Mixmag about GU being acquired by Ministry of Sound. I think this was where most the concrete facts came from. Said they went bankrupt, money was owed ex ex…
Digweed was asked about working with GU again and he said something about them being boat buying wankers, and that he never saw a dime for Hong Kong or L.A.

There was definitely more, but those are the three things that stand out in my mind.

I don’t think that they ripped off Digweed, I believe that GU acquired rights to tracks on GU mixes and never paid up. I believe they were mainly tracks off Nick Warren’s Budapest mix. The artist posted about it on GU’s forum. TBH, think that they were trying to get permissions for free to save money.

The 24/7 releases were both supposed to be part of the City Series, but became 27/7’s to reduce costs. Both artists and Sander, stated that they were due to do 2003 GU City mixes in the 2002 DJ Mag Top 100 DJ’s
