I have a problem with her playing a load of covid gigs.
Oh Nina no

jonattonyeah see I need musicians to be 100% in line with my views, or they are right out. Its why I’m such a fan of Boyd Rice.
Kells77 May I suggest you see DJs you know will hit the spot with their music policy and their mixing? This Nina bird doesn’t sound like she’s up your straße
bosstrabs Interesting observation I had yesterday, listened to Sasha from Alexandra Palace on New Years 98/99, some of the tracks he played were absolute shite EDM type tracks, case in point - - - > Arrakis - Aira Force. Massive jesus pose and fireworks breakdown, exactly the kind of stuff that I’ll never listen to ever again from that era and I’m sure he’s embarrassed himself if he ever listens back to some of those sets.
So what is classed EDM? Is it the type of record? the clientele? The theatrics behind the decks? Production quality?
Not that I really give a fuck anyway, horses for courses etc etc. I’m not too cool for school, if kids enjoy nights out listening to Nina or Guetta then more power to them.

Its now become its own genre. Aoki, Deadmau5 , Martin Garrix, et all make it. Big saw tooth synths, pitch bending the lead right before the “drop” and cymbals place on the kick drums (as opposed to in between) are all earmarks.
EDM has become less of an acronym and more of a word of its own. It’s like obscenity. There is no real definition of what’s obscene, but we know it when we see it.
Mass market EDM is the quick route to being minted if that is your goal, just look at Calvin Harris.
The underground electronic scene is where the real talent and music lovers are, which is stating the obvious.

Wasn’t it made up for the American market first but is now played all around world. Look at the main stage at Tomorrowland.
zackster I know the culprits only too well, it mostly feels like a massive hijack by record execs from the US too. Which is why I don’t think it has to do with a “sound” per se as theres been many “EDM” type tracks played by large DJs for over 20 years now.
Nina getting away with it because of her looks is a nonsense as far as I’m concerned and is neither here nor there. We were only talking the other day about women “Sarshering” front and centre mostly because they wanted to ride the head off him, and men too down the front thinking the same also (Dermo). I know plenty of women from back home who only went out because the DJ was “hot”, (see İdris Elba for further reference). Unfair to throw that at Nina imo, she’s a genuine vinyl lover and collector.
I’m fairly trashed right now on moonshine and might not be making any sense anyway, Zach.
Hursty The shiny event at a beach resort, with fireworks going off and product placement everywhere is always going to be the more popular ticket around. Has the sheep flocking from miles around. Harping back to the “be there, be seen” moto. It’s a shame because music integrity has always lost out because of it, but that’s life and it’s only my opinion.
I’m proud to say that I’ve never sold out.
Along_the_Wire Typically I do. But at the beginning of lockdown, there was just so much out there to see….I got greedy.
As derm used to say, they are all mad but the ones that didn’t birth coupled with massive drug use are on another level. Klock did well to swerve
Nina sure sparks conversation if nothing else.
