Both the Last Dance and Diego have been excellent this past year.

Any recommendations for other classic sports documentaries. I don’t even particularly like basketball but really enjoyed The Last Dance, so…

The 30 For 30’s are excellent. “Once Brothers” being a standout. Same with “Two Escobars”

“When We Were Kings” is not just a great documentary, it might be one of the best films ever made.

“Free Solo” is insane but not sure if that’s “sports”.

“Senna” is excellent.

I have watched a few of the 30 for 30s now, but couldn’t get hold of these ones.

I did watch:
I Hate Christian Laettner (very good)
Brian and the Boz (not as good as I expected, a bit slow actually, mostly just him sorting through his memorabilia and talking to his son… meh)
Nature Boy (great)
Elway to Marino (excellent for someone from the UK who doesn’t really know the intricacies of the draft, may be boring to Yanks)

Any others to strongly recommend?

Basically all of the 30 for 30’s are amazing. Steve Nash did one on Terry Fox (a Canadian amputee who ran across the country while his entire body was ravaged by cancer) that is very good. Much of the 30 For 30 series can be viewed on the YouTubes.

Lance Armstrong - ESPN, BBC storyville was superb. Really enjoyed the Spurs and Torres docs on prime too.

“Seau” is excellent but is a rough watch. About the football player Junior Seau and his post-career issues with brain damage. Shame you can’t find “Once Brothers” as it’s one of the best in the series. “The U” is also good. About Miami University’s football program in the ’80’s and ’90’s. If you enjoyed “I Hate Christian Laettner” check out “The Fab Five”. Pretty sure that’s the most watched 30 For 30 and it’s not even close. “The Four Falls” is pretty funny if you feel like laughing at a team that made it to four straight Super Bowls (never done before) and lost them all.

Another vote for When We Were Kings, it’s incredible. Survive And Advance is another one on 30 For 30, highly recommended

Steve McQueen: The lost movie. Classing this as sport as it’s about his attempts to make the ultimate motor racing film. Loads of amazing footage they filmed in 1966 after getting access to F1 but the film was never finished. I’m no petrol head but this was ace. McQueen is cool as fuck.

I’ve got the doc on Frank Zappa to watch as well.

Amps yeah, tough childhood too. This doesn’t really go into his personal life too much..just covers the period in 65/66 when he was trying to get this film made. There’s some good footage of races at Oulton Park as they filmed some stuff there they were going to use.
