Amps Ableton 8 (I think) on an iMac from 2006 😳

Pretty much exclusively Ableton. I’ve been using it so long it’s second nature now. I started on Cubase though but found Ableton just so much more intuitive when I switched over (which if I remember was version 4!). I have an old version of reason but never really invested the time to learn the sequencer - it’s something I’ve meant to do and as I’ve said above I’m planning to upgrade as it can now be used as a plugin. Am waiting for black Friday…

I should add that I’ve been using Ableton to mostly DJ with since about version 5, until the last five or so years where I’ve increasingly been producing in it as well. I still get better mixdowns out of Cubase though - which I’ve used since 1994.

I get better results. My mixdowns sound better. Low end sounds tighter. I don’t know why exactly it is, but I’m not the only one who has this issue with Ableton. Apparently people have done audio engine comparisons and it’s supposedly the same as other DAWs in terms of quality, but I’m not entirely convinced.

That said, in terms of ease of creativity nothing comes close to Ableton that I’ve encountered. The audio and routing capabilities are pretty phenomenal.

loopdokter fair enough. i’ll be sticking with ableton as there’s no way i’m learning another daw, but it’s good to know the differences.

Unbroken1 yeah there are a few things i’m looking forward to. lanes for different takes is a great idea and i love all of the random functions, especially probabilities for velocity/pressure/etc. the suite upgrade is a bit cheaper than last time too.

What was that function where it cut between the different lanes based on a user set pattern? sounded mad

Looks really good. Can use MPE with Push 2 which is a bonus. Hybrid Reverb and scale option for clips also big pluses that I can see myself using a fair bit.

Also got an early bird invite for the upgrade with 20% which is a no brainer. 😀

Ableton continue to take the piss with their pricing. I understand that Live is basically their only product, but they’re not exactly hurting for usership. That’s basically saying ‘fuck you’ to people who have already paid for the program.

I appreciate that they’re one of the few that do CAD and don’t revert to USD, but still… To compare, Cubase 10.5 Pro to 11 Pro is $150 CAD. Logic outright is $250 if I’m not mistaken? Cubase Pro is $350 CAD.

So yeah, Ableton’s pricing is way out of whack. 🙁 To be honest I’m not that fussed about some of the stuff in the latest version. There’s nothing that made me go ‘phwoar’ and then they continue to charge full on DAW purchase pricing for upgrading… Not cool.
