An Enfield man has been banned from his local Lidl for taking his pet snake with him on a shopping trip.

Staff and customers were stunned when Andre Belle-Etoile strolled into the Enfield store with his pet python Pliskin draped around his neck.

Some petrified shoppers looked on in horror as the 46-year-old wandered the aisles before being told to leave by management.

Andre claimed he made the trip to test the storeā€™s no dog policy ā€œto the limitā€.

He said the five-year-old, 6ft-long reptile posed no danger to other shoppers and that he did not know what all the fuss was about.

After leaving the supermarket Andre, went to a nearby branch of B&Q to buy some compost.

A spokeswoman for Lidl said: ā€œWeā€™d kindly ask Mr Belle-Etoile to leave Pliskin the snake at home in future - after all, weā€™re a supermarket, not a safari.ā€
