There’s an an opium smoking Indian dude called Ravi in it, who becomes a crucial cog in the story. That’s how shite it is.

Accurate racial profiling imo

Homegrove I never mentioned his accent. Denzel is unbelievable on many different levels, not just his accent.

Watched Cinema Paradiso on the plane - never got round to watching it. The score is cheesy, but the film is wonderful (I don’t use that word very often to describe a film) - making it must’ve been a massive labour of love. 9/10

Also saw The Lost Children - didn’t know if was gonna be a documentary. Great story, but there’s a lot of guff in there - brilliant when they find the kids. 5/10

Will have to watch Cinema Paradiso some day. We went to see it in the theatre from school when I was in 5th grade. Not a movie I appreciated at that age I can tell you.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999). A Jim Jarmusche-film where Forest Whitaker is a hit man who fashions himself by the samurai code. When his bosses turn against him he begins a one man war against them. Great film if you like the Jarmusche-style. The mob guys in this are a hoot.

Millsy used to love that film too.

Is It streaming in the UK? Here it’s not even available on VOD. But since I am not against buying Blu rays I got the Studio Canal 4K remaster from last year.

Smallman1 standard version, not reference quality, non-director’s cut. I may as well throw it in the sea.

Rebel Moon Part 1: Director’s Cut

I watched this on Netflix and I’ve had it in my potentials list because I don’t mind a bit of sci-fi. It’s over 3 hours long and what I didn’t know until I’d finished was that the normal version at about an hour less is also available. First mistake.

Rebel Moon is like a dark version of Star Wars. So many similarities with the look, feel and plot. I think they pinched the costumes for some of the characters from the Star Wars wardrobe (see the priest guys with the flat, circle hats, for example) and the spaceships mostly look the same too.

Starts off strong with some gore and violence, then segues into tits, more tits and then some fucking. Great! I’m invested. Spoiler: For the next two and half hours there are no more tits and no more fucking. Also note, the film goes downhill from this point. Quelle surprise.

They’ve got Darth Vader, Emperor Palatine, Lando and even C3P0 in it, or at least their equivalents in the story. The similarities don’t stop with Star Wars. The orc leader from LOTR is in it. They have a scene where they’re taming a wild animal like in Avatar. They managed to recruit a general turned gladiator for their cause. I wonder where they got that idea from. There are plenty of others, but you get the idea.

It’s a real mish mash and the ‘love story’ is pathetic. The guy is massive bellend with weak sauce and there is no way the protagonist would be realistically interested. But she is…

That said, plus points. Some of the scenes do look good. Not wow good, but still good. As I mentioned before, tits. The baddies spaceship (THE KING’S GAZE) looks like a black version of Red Dwarf. The antagonist played by Ed Skrein isn’t bad either.

          4/10.

Millsy I’m actually sad about how snobby I am with DVDs these days. I still have loads, but for most case they are unwatchable in modern TVs. They looked mint on CTR TVs, but not so much with what we have now. 28 Days Later aside, watching that with anything but DVD is pointless as it was shot on less than 720p digital cameras. OK the Blu ray might have better sound because it’s HD instead of lossy, but fuck it, especially with how expensive that movie is now that it’s not streaming anywhere and the physical copies are out of print too. Yes I have it on DVD.
